Does Image:susanpenensie.jpg qualify as fair use for this article?
[edit]Please discuss this in here, rather than in edit summaries. I reverted the last edit to keep the image off the article, as is safe, until a decision is made on the matter. Personally, I feel that an attempt at least be made to search for a replaceable image, as surely somebody snapped a photo and put it on Flickr of Anna at one of the premieres of the film. If not, I would judge that, as she's made rare public appearances (she's only been in one film), the photo might qualify. --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 04:56, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I don't think the issue here is the lack of an attempt to find an appropriate image, but the constant revertions to version that violate WP policy. And, she's been in more than the one film. JPG-GR 06:17, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- I would say no. Not so much because its replaceable (though policy seems to be moving in the direction of "no fair-use of living people, period"), but because it is simply decorative. There is no discussion or commentary about the picture; it just shows what she looks like in costume. As much as I miss it, there is clear precedent for removing images such as this. The images have been removed from both Skandar and Will's pages, for instance. Eluchil404 08:07, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
To expand, the image pretty clearly fails the Fair use policy criteria 1 and 8 (Wikipedia:Fair use#Policy. Since in this article it serves as a general image of Anna (rather than specifically of her role as Susan) it is replacable in theory since she does appear in public. As the policy says However, if the subject of the photograph still exists, a freely-licensed photograph could be taken. Nor does the image specifically illustrate relevant points or sections within the text. And it does little for identification purposes since there is only one Anna Pollewell from Finchley who is an actress. Thus, although the image is relevant, encyclopedic, and, IMHO (IANAL), legal it clearly fails Wikipedia's policy for the inclusion of unfree media. Eluchil404 08:16, 26 January 2007 (UTC)
- Would it be possible to use the image from Susan Pevensie? — Relyimah (t-c-e) 02:07, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
New movie question
[edit]Is this so called trailer, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTLk8OjR5Kw, to be trusted or is it full of crap? --RockerballAustralia 07:24, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Both. The fine print at the end says that they will be contacted soon in relation to the film. Thus it is a fan project to which they are not attached. My estimation is that it has zero chance of being made in its projected form, but that doesn't mean that the creator isn't making a good-faith effort. Eluchil404 16:23, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- So it would be best to wait for something else in relation to this before we add any information here? --RockerballAustralia 23:14, 28 January 2007 (UTC)
- Yup, wait till you see something on a major fan site like http://www.narniaweb.com/ or http://www.narniafans.com/ (even though they're meant for Narnia they usually report on the goings-on of film actors). --Fbv65edel / ☑t / ☛c || 04:22, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Magdalen College Accuracy
[edit]Untrue!!! I know this girl, she is definitly not studying at Magdalen College. 203.173.242.59 13:54, 10 October 2007 (UTC)
I am almost certain Anna Popplewell is not a student of any Oxford college; how does one correct the article's inaccurate assertion that Anna is a Magdalen student? Overageunderanna (talk) 23:32, 28 November 2007 (UTC)
- It's unsourced so one can just remove it. I have done so. If someone has a reliable source for her current activities, please provide it. Eluchil404 (talk) 03:57, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
Claim to student status at Magdalen has reappeared, again with no authority to back it Overageunderanna (talk) 03:30, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
I have removed it again as well as the information about her previous school which also lacked a source. Per, WP:BLP unsourced information in articles about living people should be removed aggressively. Eluchil404 (talk) 04:01, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
Well we finally have a cite for her attending Magdalen. I would love a better one, at least a permalink to the blog entry but am inclined to leave the sentence for now. Eluchil404 (talk) 23:51, 27 December 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I still am unable to access any source which can verify the claim to student status for Ms Popplewell at Magdalen. She most certainly was an enrolled student at North London Collegiate, and was actually Head Girl of the school in 2006. Unfortunatly, while she definitly has appeared in a recent Oxford production of Macbeth (impressive as Lady Macbeth), garnering positive reviews, any confirmation of this appearance can not be taken as confirmation of her being a Magdalen student. I have met this girl, she has, until very recently, spent much time in Auckland, New Zealand (where Narnia post production takes place). Whilst it is true she has worked hard at her secondary schooling, it seems most unlikely she has been able to become a Magdalen student. If I am wrong, if Ms Popplewell honestly is an Oxford student, could one of those making such a claim please produce unambigous authority in proof of this.
Proof of a theatre appearance in Oxford is not proof of undergraduate status. Overageunderanna (talk) 21:15, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- The link [1] lists her college as Magdalen. I don't have a strong opinion on the matter myself. You are free to edit the article or to seek a Wikipedia:Third opinion. Eluchil404 (talk) 21:19, 28 December 2007 (UTC)
- This article (scroll down for the bit about Anna) also suggests that she is a Magdalen student. It confirms that she was offered a place, and talks about how she took extra tuition to prepare for her A Levels because of filming; however this article came out before she took her A Levels, so it in itself is not direct confirmation that she has now become a student at Magdalen. But I think it makes it reasonable to assume that the OUDS site isn't lying. -- KittyRainbow (talk) 00:09, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
She is in the Oxford student contact directory as being at Magdalen. DerGlizerndeDiamant (talk) 01:32, 29 December 2007 (UTC)
Sorry, I was wrong (again), Ms Popplewell has been an Oxford student all along; once again my uncritical acceptance of another's statement has led to me believing the unbelievable. Overageunderanna (talk) 20:47, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
After all that debate, I now discover Anna is currently not an Oxford student. Dropped out most likely.
Um, she still is at Magdalen - I go there.
Citations for Filmography - Worldwide Gross
[edit]Just noticed an update to the Worldwide Gross for Prince Caspian[2]. I was wondering if it was general practice to cite these values or not? I am happy to try and do this when I have time if this is the case and someone can give me some idea of where this information is generally obtained? — Relyimah (t-c-e) 02:04, 6 June 2008 (UTC)
Spelling of mother's name. Correct Spelling -> DEBRA
[edit]I checked on the GMC website for doctor's with the last name lomas, and the only debra is spelled (as i've just spelt it) DEBRA. It is NOT spelt DEBORAH, and therefore I am changing it.
I removed the change with the following quote. I don't think rumors should be added to the article. Wikipedia is not a trash mag. If there is a citation for it, then it can be re-added with concensus.
"Anna is very close to actor William Moseley, whom plays her brother in the Chronicles of Narnia movie series. There has been much speculation as to whether or not these two have romantic feelings for one another."
Also, I removed the image, which was linking to an external reference.

- Update: Luftewaffle has rolled back these changes (here), however, as yet, there is no explanation why. I will not get into an 'edit war', so I will leave as-is until —
- a) I get a reasonable response
- b) I have not heard back for a day or so
- Cheers, — Relyimah (t-c-e) 21:37, 22 June 2008 (UTC)
- There was an interview, I'll try to find it again, where the interviewer asked Anna and Will if they were dating or had dated, but all they did is smile and neither denied nor confirmed it, so I guess there apparantly isn't any proof. But maybe it could be added as long as you add "but when asked, they have neither denied nor confirmed".. It may be unneccessary imformation though (; TaylorLanebore me —Preceding undated comment added 04:05, 30 December 2011 (UTC).
Copyright material
[edit]The Mansfield Park picture is is quite clearly copyright material - it purports to be a screen-dump from a DVD which has been released commercially. The small-print on all commercially-published material usually says something to the effect of "all rights reserved" to the copyright holder. In order for this to be "fair use", then there needs to be a written waiver of copyright. There is none. This is, in part, what the covering notice says:
- This image is a screenshot of a copyrighted television program or station ID. As such, the copyright for it is most likely owned by the company or corporation that produced it.
- for identification and critical commentary on the station ID or program and its contents
- To the uploader: please add a detailed fair use rationale for each use, as described on Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline, as well as the source of the work and copyright information.
The picture does not identify or promote the copyright holder. There is no question of a review of this film in the article, nor the subject's part in it. Hers is not a major part in the film anyway: if one was to do an objective review, her part would not be likely to be discussed. Ms Popplewell is not Shirley Temple, Tatum O'Neal, Jenny Agutter or even Macaulay Caulkin. Use of the picture is not essential to illustrate the article, nor does it add anything significant - it can manage perfectly well without.
This is just another example of the Facebook/YouTube puffery that bedevil this article. Wikipedia does not exist for purposes of self-promotion. Guy (talk) 00:02, 31 August 2008 (UTC)
Resemblance to Elyse Levesque
[edit]Has anyone else noticed that she bears a striking resemblance to Elyse Levesque, the actress who portrays Chloe Armstrong in Stargate Universe? ProtoKun7 (talk) 12:14, 25 December 2009 (UTC)
Descent?
[edit]And by descent, I mean, for instance: Italian or Irish. Most celebrities on here have it included their ancestory. Just saying. --TaylorLanebore me 19:05, 16 January 2012 (UTC)
- If you can find reliable secondary sources that cover her ancestry, then we can mention them in the article. Elizium23 (talk) 19:09, 16 January 2012 (UTC)

Help Citing
[edit]Hi, I'm new to editing Wikipedia and wanted to add a birth date to Anna Popplewell's page as it was missing. I got her birthdate from IMDB but I don't know how to cite that on the page. 71.184.103.54 (talk) 02:15, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
- Hello and welcome. Wikipedia does not consider IMDb to be a reliable source (see WP:IMDB, WP:IMDB/RS and WP:IMDB-EL for more information and details on that). Consequently, IMDb, cannot be used to substantiate or verify any claim about actors, especially for things like birth dates. — Archer (t·c) 03:39, 7 January 2024 (UTC)
